Chorus York is a mixed-voice performance choir that sings a wide range of music, classical to popular. Led by our passion for singing, we are aspiring to foster the growth of choral music in our community through our performances and educational offerings. Dr. John Holland, Music Director
Originally from Windsor, Ontario, Dr. John Holland brings with him over twenty years of experience as a professional opera singer, choral conductor, and music educator, as well as a tremendous knowledge of music, specifically choral repertoire. John acknowledges Chorus York’s important role in the local community as a caretaker of musical heritage and traditions, and as a leading arts organization. John is also the Artistic Director of the Toronto Classical Singers, Director of Music at Blessed Trinity Parish, Director of Fundraising and Community Programs at Avenue Road Music and Performance Academy, and a contract faculty member at York University. His book, The Lost Tradition of Dvořák’s Operas: Myth, Music, and Nationalism was published in 2023 through Lexington Books. A lifetime involvement with choirs has been essential in making him the musician and leader he has become. John is thrilled to be guiding Chorus York on its path to the future!
Daniel Savin
Daniel Savin joined Chorus York as Apprentice Conductor in 2024, and has worked closely with the choir over the past two seasons. Daniel graduated with a BA in Music Education from the University of Toronto in 2024, where he studied as a clarinetist, and as a conductor under the tutelage of Ivars Taurins and Kathleen Allan. Daniel conducts the Apostolic Christian Church choir in Toronto, and fills various guest conducting positions across Ontario and the United States. He is also an active choral singer in the GTA, having sung with the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, and is currently singing with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Daniel frequently collaborates with internationally renowned conductors and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. A 2026 recipient of an Elmer Iseler National Graduate Fellowship, Daniel will begin his MA in choral conducting this coming fall at the University of Toronto, studying with Dr. Jamie Hillman.
Hannah Mok
Yan Kiu (Hannah) Mok is a versatile musician wearing many hats: a pianist, accompanist, music educator, conductor, arranger, and composer. Currently at York University for her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) and Bachelor of Education degrees, Hannah has studied with renowned musicians such as Randolph Peters, Sarah Slean, Robi Botos, among others. She had also obtained her ABRSM Grade 8 piano certificate at 13 and began performing as a collaborative musician at 14. Involved in projects ranging from classical and pop to rock and jazz, she is an adaptable and creative individual who thrives in genre-bending environments.
Nick Gough
Nick is very pleased to be singing with Chorus York this season. Nick sings professionally in the GTA with many groups including the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Elora Festival Singers, and The Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Nick made his Toronto Symphony debut recently in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. When not singing Nick loves to spend time with his wife and daughter and, after more than 30 years, still trains in Karate.
Alessia Naccarato
Italian-Canadian mezzo-soprano Alessia Naccarato, B.F.A., M.Mus., is pleased to be singing with Chorus York this season. Alessia made her professional operatic debut performing the role of Ursule in her hometown of Toronto in the company MYOpera’s production of Béatrice et Bénédict. Since then, she has enjoyed a varied international career performing on both operatic and concert stages. A passionate collaborator, and champion for the programming of contemporary music projects, Alessia has premiered new works both locally and internationally on the stage of Wigmore Hall, the London Contemporary Music Festival, and Opera in Concert. When she is not singing or teaching, Alessia is likely to be found tending her vegetable garden or with her nose in a good book.
Grace Quinsey
Grace Quinsey, born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, has quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with on the opera stage, becoming well known for her dramatic acting and insightful musical interpretation. Her career to date has included accoladed performances in Opera York’s L’elisir d’amore, her debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Toronto Concert Orchestra. She is delighted to be a featured artist at the Canadian Opera Company’s Noon Concert series. Grace has a comprehensive Cecchetti ballet background, and has been noted for her unique characterization, intelligent musicality, and dramatic stage presence.
David Yung
David Yung is a Toronto-based baritone singer active in the choral community. He sings as a professional lead with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the St. Paul’s Bloor Street Anglican Church Choir, and the Holy Blossom Temple Choir. David also appears with the Trinity Bach Project and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale. He is pleased to be appearing for the first time with Chorus York.
